Broadband Light (BBL)

What is BBL?

BroadBand Light or BBL is a corrective phototherapy treatment that uses BroadBand Light to target skin concerns. BBL is an innovating module created by Sciton with a broader range of wavelengths to allow targeted treatment for many skin conditions and skin types.

The varying wavelengths of BBL include:

  • 420: Acne
  • 515: Pigmented Lesions
  • 560: Vascular Lesions
  • 590: Deeper Lesions, Darker Skin Types, Hair Removal
  • 640: Hair Removal
  • 695: Hair Removal

SkinTyte: is an attachment that uses infrared light energy to deeply heat dermal collagen leading to renewed collagen foundations for skin firming.

How does BBL works?

BBL produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The varying wavelengths means that the target tissue is selectively absorbs the light with minimal effect on the surrounding tissue. The absorption produces heat within the target tissue resulting localized destruction of the undesirable target (pigment, blood vessels, hair). The body then absorbs the damaged tissue allowing for regeneration of healthy tissue.

BBL is inbuilt with a sapphire crystal embedded with sensors to continually and precisely maintain temperatures within the handpiece to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. We do understand some aesthetic treatments are more uncomfortable than others, should you require topical anaesthetic application prior to your treatment, please advise Skinfluence Clinic prior to your appointment date and time.

What is the difference between IPL and BBL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light the method in which the energy is delivered to the skin is very similar however BBL is actually more powerful, targeted and precise. BBL also has more safety when it comes to treating darker skin types. BBL also generally requires less treatments when compared to IPL.

What can be treated with BBL?

  • Sun damaged skin
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmentation
  • Rejuvenation
  • Acne
  • Hair Removal

BBL can be treated off face including treating conditions on the face, neck, décolletage, shoulders, back and legs.

When will I see results with BBL?

Depending on what condition and area you are treating you will start to notice results approximately 1 week following treatment, however follow-up treatments may be required to achieve optimal results.

What is involved in a BBL treatment?

Following a consultation with one of our Skinfluencers to determine your suitability to treatment a BBL treatment can be scheduled. Prior to your appointment at Skinfluence Clinic for a BBL treatment we request that no makeup be worn in the treatment area, this includes mascara, eyebrow pencil and lip sticks. Moisturisers and sunscreens can be applied the morning of treatment.

The treatment will last approximately 30 minutes. Eye goggles will be worn to protect eyes and a gel will be applied to the skin which protects the skin but also enables gliding of the BBL hand-piece. Following treatment your Skinfluencer will discuss after care requirements and rebook your follow up appointments.

How often should I get a BBL treatment done?

Initially you may be required to book in for monthly treatments for 2-3 months to achieve optimal results. Maintenance sessions are then performed every 6-12 months.

How do I look after my skin following BBL?

In the hours and weeks following a BBL treatment several things will be required to be avoided to obtain optimal results:

  • 24 hours: excessive exercise, hot showers or sauna use.
  • 2-5 days: anti-acne skin cares, topical vitamin A (retinols), anti-pigmentation preparations.
  • 4-6 weeks: exfoliating products (AHA, BHA ingredients, scrubs), waxing, plucking or depilatory use. IPL or laser hair treatment or skin rejuvenation. Sun exposure. Facial or other chemical exfoliation treatments. Microdermabrasion. Anti-wrinkle and dermal filler injections.

Gentle skin cares are advised following treatment including a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen.

Influencing confident skin inside and out.
