Sclerotherapy

What is Sclerotherapy?

Microsclerotherapy is a non-surgical technique used for the removal of small veins using an irritant substance, hypertonic saline. Most commonly treated areas includes legs. Many veins can be treated in a single sessions.

This process causes the vein wall to become inflamed (red and swollen), causing the vein to shut down over the next 4-6 weeks.

What is involved in a Sclerotherapy treatment?

This treatment usually involves a course of multiple injections using a very fine gauge needle to deliver the irritant agent into the vein. The person may experience mild discomfort and mild transient stinging, however will resolve at the conclusion of the treatment. The number of treatments required is dependent on the extent and number of veins present as well as the individual’s response to treatment.
